Critical illness cover

Critical illness cover pays a one off, tax-free lump sum, on survival 28 days after diagnosis of a specified critical illness during the term of the policy. It won't replace your income, but it'll give you one less thing to worry about whilst you recover. This lump sum could provide for:

  • any outstanding mortgage or loans you might have
  • the cost of adapting your home or car
  • medical care, especially if it's not readily available on the NHS
  • time off work to help you recover

For more information on critical illness cover please visit the FSA website or see the money made clear guide (This will open a new window - PDF 0.6Mb)

Critical illness cover also includes The Co-operative Insurance Care Planning Service. If you make a valid claim, you will be offered counselling by a qualified nurse who can discuss your needs and the needs of your family.

A helpline is also available to all policyholders to provide information on a range of topics, such as care of the elderly and power of attorney.

To apply call 0845 300 3525 and arrange an appointment with a Co-operative Insurance Financial Adviser.

This policy does not acquire a cash-in value at any time.

The Co-operative Insurance Care Planning Service is offered as a part of the policy though the claimant must pay for any resulting treatment. You must use the advisory service within 12 months of the settlement of the claim.

Any advice from The Co-operative Financial Advisers will relate only to a range of the products and services available from members of the CFS marketing group, and a limited number of other companies.

Calls to 0845 numbers will cost no more than 4p per minute for BT customers. Call charges from other companies may vary and you may want to check this with your service provider.

Calls may be monitored or recorded for security and training purposes.
